Everything you'd possibly want to know about Sarah Jessica Parker's sartorial costar.
What will be the pigeon purse of And Just Like That season 3? We've been asking ourselves that question since Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw carted around an$890 JW Anderson clutch in the shape of New York City's winged rodents in the sophomore season of the Sex and the City spinoff. After the premiere episode, we may have an answer.
Parker filmed a scene in downtown's Washington Square Park with two costars: Sarita Choudhury as Seema and one massive Maryam Keyhani hat that takes up most of the screen. You know, just a sensible summer headpiece for a stroll in the park with a friend.
The gingham hat, called Head in the Clouds by the designer, retails for £450 (just over $606) with a hat circumference of 54 cm. "I love that hat," Parker tells Entertainment Weekly during an interview at The Plaza hotel in Manhattan earlier in May. "I was afraid that Michael would have a legitimate issue with it, but he was quite open."
Michael Patrick King, the longtime executive producer and showrunner of Sex and the City and And Just Like That, was previously more averse towards hats, according to Parker. But he has since become "so much more hospitable to hats." She says, "Size and scale aren't as terrifying. It's like his eyes have adjusted, finally."
"That is the moment of the season in terms of [an] acute shock of accessory," Patrick comments separately. "I saw it and I was like, 'Well, that's what Carrie wears when she's walking through Washington Square Park eating Sherbet. It's perfect, as if some beautiful fashionable Hindenburg suddenly dropped on her head. And she kept going because she thought it looked cute."
Parker has been working for the past 25 years or so with hair stylist Serge Normant, who also styles her hair on And Just Like That. "We always get the hats in advance and we look at them just for physics reasons," the star explains. "Popped it right on. It's very light. All of that is just linen that's got some stuffing in it to keep a shape, but it's really kind of like when a child just goes wet like a noodle and they just give up in a fight. You can't pick them up. The hat's sort of like that.... It's like a soufflé. It's substance and yet no weight."

There are "a couple more" sartorial moments like this hat coming later this season, Patrick teases, so perhaps something else will claim its own pigeon purse status. "There's always a thing. There has to be a thing," the showrunner says. "As soon as we saw the hat, we go, 'That's a thing. It's going to be a thing.'"
And Just Like That season 3 continues with new episodes Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT on Max.
